French artist Perrine Baillieux is coming to NN to perform BE AS IT MAY on Wednesday 1 March 2017 starting at 7pm.
BE AS IT MAY is a lecture, in songs. It analyzes an impressionist canvas titled “Sisters”, by Kazimir Malevich, dated 1910 by the artist but actually executed in the late twenties. Unsatisfied with art history’s account of Malevich’s overall gesture of predating many of his late works, the artist analyzes “Sisters” and ventures into its conceptual depths.
Being a theory art piece as much as a lecture of art theory, BE AS IT MAY exposes in music and images the plausibility of a Suprematist late oeuvre by Malevich about Time.
From 6pm ahead of the performance, the new proprietors of NN’s cafe space, Maule Brewing x NN, will be hosting a pop up bar in the gallery before Perrine’s performance. Artists are also invited to bring their submissions for the Artist Information Area on this date (find out more here) and to chat with NN’s Artistic Director Catherine Hemelryk ahead of the performance, which starts at 7pm and will last approximately one hour.
Perrine will lead a singing workshop Your Voice Doesn’t Need You and give an artist talk about her practice at The University of Northampton on Thursday 2 March 2017.
