A group of studio holders from NN are hosting a pop-up talk, make and show in the top floor Project Space from 23–26 May 2018, 11–4pm.
The studio Artists at NN invite the public to view and discuss the Studio Artists work. The Popup exhibition will have show a range of disciplines from painting, print, to 3D.
Danni Smith aims to explore and experiment with the materiality of clay, in response to a series of
35mm photographs and distressed emulsion paintings on chintzy domestic fabric. With the idea
of fusing the 2D and 3D together, pushing the boundary of the physicality of painting. Smith invits you to provide an honest critique as a way of directing the work created.
Cordell Garfield will be showing a series of oil paintings from commissions and self directed work. Cordell will open his practice to the public, as he bonces between painting the people who enter the project space and working on his Landscape series. Opening up the dialogue between painter and sitter.
Emma Davies will be showing a selection of silkscreen prints in development, which form part of her
residency on the AA2A scheme at De Montfort University. The prints use colour, mark making,
texture and text and explore methods in poster making for her larger participation project You
Can’t Shake Hands with a Clenched Fist;, the pilot of which took place in the Project Space at NN
in August 2017. Some prints have crossed over; into some of Emma’s studio based projects, thus
creating an interweaving of dynamics within one image – the personal and public.
If you are an artist or group wanting to try something new for your practice, apply to use NN’s Project Space. Details here.
