Susan MacWilliam EIKON

22 November 2017 by catherine

We are delighted to share the news that Susan MacWilliam has won the EIKON Award (45+). Susan’s work can currently be seen at NN in The New Archive and her book is available from the NN Shop.

From EIKON:

On the occasion of the 100th issue of EIKON, the EIKON Award (45+) was launched under the patronage of VALIE EXPORT for European women photographers and media artists aged 45 and over. The addressees are oftentimes excluded from awards by age restrictions, in addition to still being marginalized on the art market on the basis of multiple aspects of their sexual identity. The aim of the award is not only to survey the current conditions in women’s art production, but also to draw attention to and sensitize a broad public for the (biographically caused) delays in artistic development and practice of both late entrants and returning artists.

The EIKON Award (45+) is endowed with a prize money of 5.000 Euro, which the jury, composed of Jürgen Klauke, Margot Pilz und Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir, ascribed unanimously to the already multiple awarded video, photography and installation artist Susan MacWilliam (IRL). The 2nd and 3rd place were gained by Katrín Elvarsdóttir (ISL) and Gabriele Rothemann (GER/AUT). In addition to the tribute, there will be an extensive feature in the 100th issue of EIKON – International Magazine for Photography and Media Art. Overall the artists were able to prevail against 273 women from over 23 different nations.
