Join us on Friday 20 March 2015 from 6–8pm for our launch night of Third Space, an exhibition featuring work by Northampton-born artists Sayed Hasan and Vivienne Rattray.
Both artists use their personal histories and family backgrounds as subject matter for their practice but with very different outcomes. Vivienne Rattray works with oil on canvas and other media as she traces the images from her childhood and her experiences as the first in her Jamaican family to be born into 1960s Britain. Sayed Hasan’s family has its roots in Pakistan and England. His grandfather’s car in Lahore became the subject of a series of works including a large display at Heathrow Terminal 5. For NN Sayed is producing new work inspired by his family and the title of the show, suggested by Sayed, encompases the idea of creating new spaces that are neither one culture nor another, but something new.
Third Space will be open until 10 May 2015.
